A number of these activities involve links with Parkstone Grammar School.
The school places high value on the development of loyalty, teamwork and commitment. A wide range of school sports teams are
run: rugby, soccer, cricket, athletics, tennis, cross-country, etc. There are also opportunities for all boys to participate
in inter-form matches and competitions which take place at lunchtime.
It is believed that the formation of positive attitudes and personal qualities is promoted not only through sport but through
involvement in a range of extra curricular opportunities. Many of these are available at lunchtime, but also after school,
at weekends and in the holidays. The school has a thriving Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme involving over 100 pupils.
Pupils in Year 9 have an opportunity to practise skiing in Switzerland during the Spring half-term holiday and Sixth Formers
can go to France to ski at Easter. Music is particularly strong with opportunities both for individual music tuition and
participation in a range of musical groups including the choir, orchestra, band and various ensembles. Those studying music
to GCSE and 'A' Level regularly give evening recitals. Drama flourishes both within and outside the curriculum with a variety
of large and small-scale events each year ranging from joint productions with Parkstone Grammar School to GCSE and A Level
coursework.
Visits abroad include pupil exchanges or residentials in France and Germany as well as work experience for A Level linguists.
Skills in public speaking and debating are developed through participation in a range of local and national competitions, as
are abilities in various other areas such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Business, Engineering, etc. |
