Departments

Art

The Art Department teaches painting and drawing, printmaking, three-dimensional work and elements of critical study. Its aims are to impart technical skills and to attempt to develop students’ visual awareness and emotional intelligence.

Biology

Biology is the study of life processes and living things.

Careers

The school was awarded Investor in Careers status in March 2001 this was re-awarded following reassessments in 2004 and again in 2007.

Chemistry

Chemistry is taught as a separate science subject throughout the school, predominately by subject specialists in three dedicated Chemistry laboratories.

Computing & ICT

ICT can and does make a significant contribution to teaching and learning at all stages and across all areas of the curriculum.

Design Technology

Design and Technology gives the opportunity for students to study, design and manufacture products that exist in the man-made world.

Drama

The Drama Department works in tandem with the English Department in Years 8 & 9 and is responsible for the provision and delivery of GCSE Drama and A Level Drama & Theatre Studies throughout the school.

Economics & Business

This department delivers the teaching of Economics and Business at Poole Grammar School.

English & Media

The English Department is responsible for the teaching of English Language, Literature and Media Studies, as well as having responsibility for the Library and Drama.

Geography

Geography is a dynamic and ever changing subject taught through out the school with a large number of pupils opting to study it at GCSE and also to continue their studies into the sixth from.

Literacy

Mathematics

The Mathematics Department is responsible for the teaching of Mathematics at key stages 3, 4 and 5. At A-level we offer courses in Pure Mathematics combined with either Statistics or Mechanics. We also offer a gold standard course in Further Mathematics that is highly respected by the top universities.

Modern Foreign Languages

The department offers courses to GCSE, AS and A2 in French, German and Spanish.

Music

Music is an important aspect of school life, with many students actively involved in activities.

PE & Games

The main aim of the department is that all boys will enjoy taking part and as a result will improve both their skill and fitness.

Physics

A department teaching Physics as a separate subject to all students in the school up to GCSE and to AS and A2 for those who choose.

Politics

This subject is offered in the Sixth Form, with most students studying at Poole Grammar and a few at Parkstone Grammar (usually where they cannot fit into the timetable block at Poole Grammar).

Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour.
