Student Planner/Diary

This is the key to your child’s organisation and the cornerstone of the partnership between parents/carers and the school to support your child’s education. It contains a lot of information – please could you read it with your child and sign in the appropriate space to say that you have seen it.

A good student planner/diary should contain all of the following:

  • details of homework work set that are clear not only to the students themselves but also to staff and parents (homework details are also available electronically via SIMS student, so students will be able to double check there if they are unclear on what tasks they have been set);
  • clear deadlines recorded for the completion of homework;
  • a completed homework timetable in the back of the diary to enable work set to be checked against it by staff and parents/carers;
  • reminders entered for the appropriate day for items such as lab coats and games/PE kit.

The diary should be kept in good condition with no missing pages or graffiti.

The student planner / diary is the vital ‘front line’ of communication between school and home. Subject staff may well write in comments to highlight successes or shortcomings to parents/carers and equally parents/carers are very much encouraged to write in the diary any messages that they want relayed to their child’s Form Tutor or subject teachers.

We ask that parents/carers check their child’s student planner / diary on a regular basis and sign it at the end of each week. The Form Tutor will check each of their tutees’ planner / diary during tutor time on a Monday morning. Students without a parent/carer signature for the prior week will be issued with a sanction.

Students must have their planner / diary with them every day and it should be visible on their desk during every lesson. Students who forget to bring their diary / planner to school will be issued with a school lunchtime detention.
