Pastoral Care

Pastoral care at Poole Grammar is organised with the aim of every pupil being known as an individual. The structure is one of horizontal year groups, each with supporting pastoral staff.

Main School

Pupils are allocated to mixed ability form groups on their arrival into the school. All staff work together to ensure a smooth transfer and induction into Poole Grammar from our wide variety of feeder schools.  They remain with the same Year Head and tutor until the end of their GCSE courses in Year 11.

Years 7-11 constitute the Main School. Year Heads are all situated in the Pastoral Office, supported by a Pastoral Assistant.  Further specialist support is available from our ELSA, Student Support Officers and Learning Support Department.

The Deputy Head (Behaviour & Attendance) oversees the work of all Main School pastoral staff.

Sixth Form

The majority of Year 11 pupils move on into the Sixth Form at Poole Grammar and are joined by a number of pupils who join us for their ‘A’ level studies from other local schools. Pupils are placed into a pastoral group run by a tutor who will be teaching them for one of their academic subjects. There are separate Year Heads for Years 12 & 13 who remain with their year group for the two sixth form years, supported by the Sixth Form Administrator. The Headteacher oversees the staff and pupils in this area of the school.
